Mentors

Antarang Foundation’s Mentoring Program ‘Mentors of Mumbai’ is a voluntary opportunity for experienced working professionals to provide guidance and insight to low-income youth. The focus of the program is development and empowerment, with an underlying focus on personal and professional growth.

Our vision is “to promote the academic, career and social development of students by providing them with a role model who will guide and support them through their journey of professional discovery and accomplishment.”

The 12-month program comprises one monthly meeting (2 hours/month), bi-weekly phone calls, office visits and exposure, and conversations on relevant subjects. Presently, we have 2 mentoring models: 1+1 (2) and group mentoring (3-4). We match as per gender, location & sector. The mentoring sessions are expected to take place at the mentor’s office, our office or at any public place.

We encourage thought and dialogue on topics such as aspirations, communication, prioritization, professionalism, work etiquette and more. We assess the growth of the students through our CareeReady Diagnostic tool that measures the student on Self Awareness, Career Awareness, and Skills & Mindset. Mentors are provided with a Mentoring Manual which is a tool that consists of relevant topics & activities to be used for the mentoring sessions.

Our students are within the age group of 17 to 25, and reside in various communities across Mumbai such as Dahisar, Ghatkopar, Govandi, Mankhurd, Kurla, Dharavi, Wadala, Worli, Parel, Reay Road, Mahalakshmi and Cuffe Parade.

Our mentors hail from distinct sectors including banking, finance, information technology, business, beauty and wellness, hospitality, medicine, shipping, and more. We take pride in our diversity because we strongly believe that experience and knowledge rests in the individual and their story.

We believe that mentors could serve as guides and facilitate discussion and deliberation regarding the future of a student’s career, personality or development of skills and abilities.

Lastly, the objective of Mentors of Mumbai is to build a long-lasting relationship of trust, confidence and support. It also aims toward moving the mentee on the employability parameters.
