| Project Need | As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, 2016; major crime heads under ‘Crime Against Children’ during 2016 were kidnapping & abduction (52.3%) and cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 (34.4%) including child rape. 53% of children are sexually abused in India in some form or the other every year. West Bengal is 5th highest in crime against children and there were 7004 registered case in 2016 which is 6% of the total case registered in the country. Out of 7004 registered cases, 2132 cases i.e. 30.4 % cases are being registered under POSCO Act which include rape and sexual assault. West Bengal records 6% crimes under POCSO Act, which is 4th highest in the country. |

| Work Description | Primary goal is to make society aware of “Child Sexual Abuse” and help them to fight against it. The main objective is to make children aware of the issue i.e. no one can touch their body against their will and to motivate elders (parents/teachers/guardians) to speak out and break the silence. They will be taught about four private parts on their body. Discussion with parents on: (1) To prevent a child from being sexually abused (dos & don’ts) and (2) Probable symptoms of a victim. They will be being informed about different legal aspects where they can get help regarding the issue. |
| Skills and Expertise needed | Good hold on the communicating language, Inter-personal skills, convincing skill, handling children. |
| Outcome of the Project | To “motivate” & “encourage” children and the parents to speak out against the issue by breaking their silence and fight back against the issue. |
| Impact | Children will know about the “Rights” and “Body Parts” which will certainly to help to reduce the number of cases of “Child Sexual Abuse”. |
