PROJECT BACKGROUND The Oral School for Deaf Children is a recognized institution and a registered charity. It is managed by the Society for Oral education of the deaf. The school aims at providing a stimulating experience in a friendly and informal environment through a favorable student-teacher ratio of 1:5. With English as the medium of instruction, the education provided is broad-based, giving every child an opportunity for mental, social and emotional development to the fullest. It is the only English Medium school for the deaf in the city. The organization aims to increase the capacity of the teachers to effectively teach the students. KEY PROJECT OBJECTIVES Capacity building of the school teachers to become proficient in English and conducting lessons in English. PROJECT DELIVERABLES 1) Understanding the school syllabus with the help of the Director/Management 2) Requirements of the current teachers (topics they need help on) 3) Conduct an informal pre-training assessment to gauge the level of proficiency of the teachers 4) Accordingly prepare training modules and conduct the training 5) Conduct a post-training assessment to evaluate the learnings EXPECTED LEARNING FOR THE VOLUNTEER 1) Sharpening of skills within a resource crunched context 2) Exposure to a diverse community and problems 3) Teaching ability to become diverse.
