Volunteer Opportunity: Science Educator – Agastya International Foundation

Organization: Agastya International Foundation
Location: Hybrid (On-ground + Virtual Support)
Time Commitment: Minimum 12 hours (2–4 hours/week)
Grade: 6-9 Standard

Purpose of the Role:

  • To spark curiosity, nurture creativity, and build confidence among economically disadvantaged children and teachers from government schools across India.

  • To make hands-on, practical science education accessible and engaging for students in rural communities.

  • To foster a peer-to-peer learning culture that encourages exploration and collaborative learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach science to students from Grades 6 to 9 using Agastya’s interactive pedagogy (choose one grade or as recommended by the school).

  • Use session plans provided by Agastya to deliver concept-based lessons through models and engaging activities.

  • Develop models or arrange materials required to demonstrate science concepts effectively.

  • Involve local science teachers where possible, allowing them to observe and benefit from the sessions.

  • Donate the teaching models/materials to the school after your sessions for continued learning impact.

What We Expect From You:

  • A strong enthusiasm for teaching and learning

  • Fluency in English and the local language

  • A passion for working with children and educators

  • Basic knowledge of science concepts aligned with school curricula

  • The ability to simplify complex ideas and turn them into fun, hands-on models or activities

Volunteer Eligibility:

  • Minimum time commitment: 12 hours

  • Engagement format: 2–4 hours per week, flexible based on your availability
