Community Intern for Shikha Academy
Project Description:
Shikha Academy is an innovative middle and secondary school for students from less privileged sections of the society. The school is funded by Shantilal Shanghvi Foundation.
Purpose:
The objective of the school is to reach out to the high potential children from under- privileged families and empower them with 21st century skills and high quality education.
Key Responsibilities:
1. He/She will be responsible to identify the stakeholders from the community and conduct meetings with them to inform them about Shikha Academy. For example, meeting with the women's group, community based organization, youth group children etc.
2. He/She will also be responsible to conduct regular community & door to door surveys, home visits, community meetings and informal discussions, to build rapport with the parents, share information about the school and convince them to enroll students for school.
3. The community intern will serve as a link between the school and the community. He/she will be responsible to communicate with the parents and handle their queries and doubts
Skills and Experience Required:
1. Prior experience of working with under-priviliged urban communities.
2. Excellent communication, negotiation skills in Hindi/Marathi
Location: Western Suburbs(Malad to Borivali)
Time Commitment:
4-5 Hours per day | Thrice a week | 3 to 4 months

Shikha Academy is a middle-school from Grade 5 to Grade 10. The school strives to extend opportunities to the highly deserving students from under-priviliged communities. The school aims at empowering students with education and opportunities that they are deprived in the mainstream school.
