Project Description:

During Disaster situation, communication is a very important component that needs to be taken care of to keep the situation under control. When natural disasters like cyclone, flood hit a region, the first affected will be the power supply. When power goes off, TV, Mobile Phones won't work for a long time to receive information. Whereas ordinary FM Radio stations can broadcast with batteries and people can listen through radio sets which can operate in batteries. There are also crank radios available which can generate power by a manual crank attached to the radio receiver. In order to produce programs in advance and to work during Disaster, we are looking for volunteers with media background to support us.

Purpose:

India’s First Emergency Radio - ‘Peridar Kaala Vanoli’ known as Cuddalore Emergency Radio installed to help people of Cuddalore for Disaster announcements during disaster and in other time to broadcast program to build a Disaster Resilient Community as Cuddalore is a disaster prone District in Tamilnadu, India. Cuddalore Emergency Radio which is a Volunteer driven initiative, looks for Media enthusiasts, Media Professionals to engage in audio program production in TAMIL language on various topics such as Disaster Preparedness, Government schemes available for common man, Civic Learning, Health & Family welfare, Essential skills for employability, Education, Economic Empowerment, women empowerment, Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for making announcements, program production, playing music, holding discussions with the listeners, and conducting interviews on radio.

Skills and Experience Required:

Graduate in any field and willing to learn the art of presenting in radio. Preference will be given to volunteers already having experience. There are few mandatory skills which one should have to be a Radio Jockey. Some of them are Having a good voice, Ability to modulate as per the situation, Accurate diction, Clear pronunciation, Language Fluency, Control the voice pitches, Good sense of humour, Creativity, Spontaneity, Good knowledge on music and things related to it, Down to earth nature, Approachability & Friendly. Online volunteers can record programs at their own place with a good mobile phone or sound recorder and send via email in align with the needs of the Station Manager at Cuddalore.

Location:

CUDDALORE, Tamilnadu - but TAMIL Volunteers can engage themselves ONLINE from anywhere in the world.

Time Commitment:

From 25-02-2021 to 31-03-2020 | any 2 hrs a day in Cuddalore between 10 am to 4pm | Monday - Friday | For Online Volunteers, any time convenient for them.
