Event Details At a time when we are all gasping for clean air to breathe, there is a proposal to destroy the green lungs of Gurugram. The Aravali Biodiversity Park on MG road which functions as a huge carbon sink and water recharge zone for the city and a wilderness space where the citizens of Gurugram find their connect with nature and rejuvenate themselves, is under threat from a six-lane highway proposed by the National Highways Authority of India. This short film gives an idea of what we stand to lose if this proposal becomes a reality. As part of the ongoing campaign – ‘Save Our Forest’, Friends of the Aravali Biodiversity Park (which include concerned citizens, city schools and colleges) are organising a huge event on Children’s Day, 14th November 2018. The idea is to bring the attention of the government authorities to the future they are proposing for our children by cutting a 6-lane highway through the heart of Gurugram’s green lungs. The highlight of the event will be thousands of children from various schools forming a massive human chain inside our city forest symbolically demanding its protection and their fundamental right to breathe clean air! This will be filmed from the sky using drone cameras. The Amphitheatre at the Aravali Biodiversity Park will have an exhibition showcasing the importance of Gurugram’s city forest. Hand written letters by the school children addressed to the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Delhi and the Prime Minister of India requesting them to cancel this proposal to build a 6-lane highway through Gurugram’s green lungs will also be on display. Canvas cloth scrolls signed by students from different schools with messages such as ‘Save our city forest’, ‘Give us our fundamental right to breathe clean air’ will also be part of the exhibition.
