English Speaking Workshop for Women in Rural India

About the Organisation: Srujna is a not for profit platform that empowers underprivileged women in India through livelihoods. Their mission is to provide skills and knowledge to underprivileged women through trainings and workshops, to transform them into independent, confident and contributing members of their families and communities
Project Description: Srujna works with 17 rural women in Tetwali village of Palghar District who make bamboo handicrafts. They support them by providing infrastructure and advanced level skill training and market linkage opportunities. They now also want to focus on holistic development of these women. As these women are keen to learn English, Srujna wants to organise an English speaking workshop for them.
Key Project Objectives: 1. Increase their skill set 2. Boost their confidence 3. Help them in marketing and connecting with their clientele.
Project Deliverables: The volunteer is expected to do a need assement to understand the extent of language intervention that is required and accordingly design a curriculum. Conduct English sessions focusing on basic read, write and communicate properly.
The organisaation is willing to pay travel reimbursement and provide the volunteer with certification.
Expected Learning for the Volunteer: 1. People management skills 2. Insight into the rural sector 3. An opportunity to contribute to the lives of women
Time Commitment: 2 to 3 whole days a week. The volunteer will have to stay at the village as traveling will not be feasible.
Skill and Experience Required: The volunteer should be able to make a curriculum according to the on-ground needs of the women and train them considering their capability to grasp. The volunteer should be proficient in either Hindi or Marathi as a medium of instruction
